Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York to be open daily from July

Starting July 1, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York is to be open daily, with the hours applying both to the main museum on Fifth Avenue as well as to the Cloisters museum and gardens in Fort Tryon Park on the northern tip of Manhattan Island, the museum’s administration has announced.

The main museum’s opening hours will be 10 am to 9 pm on Friday and Saturday, and 10 am to 5.30 pm Sundays to Thursdays. The Cloisters is open daily until October from 10 am to 5.15 pm and from 10 am to 4.45 pm from November through February.

Samoa Air gets mixed reactions to charging passengers by weight

Wellington (dpa) – Tiny Pacific airline Samoa Air has flown into a cloud of controversy over its move to begin charging passengers based on what they weigh, with some suggesting the move is discriminatory.

Samoa Air began calculating ticket prices based on the combined weight of passengers and their luggage several months ago, with chief executive Chris Langton saying it was a fairer way to calculate fares and was making flying cheaper for those with children.

”The people who have been most pleasantly surprised are families because we don’t charge on the seat requirements … so a family can travel at considerably less than what they were being charged before.”
